Gujrati Samaj of New Jersey ::
These are the excerpts of the
interview our correspondent jagdeep trivedi had with the
office bearers of Gujrati Samaj of New Jersey while covering
the grand function organized to celebrate the new year.
Jagdeep Trivedi: please tell
us briefly about the organization?
Bharatbhai Shah (president): our
organization started four years ago in New Jersey with the
sole intension of helping and bringing the Guajarati community
in New Jersey together and celebrate various functions and
help the community in every aspect of life.
Our organization has done
exemplary work in raising funds to help people in Gujarat and
maintaining schools in small towns in Gujarat. We have also
raised funds for tsunami victims in India.
Jagdeep trivedi: what are the
other activities you are focusing on?
Vjaybhai Shah (Chairman): We
also are trying to setup Sankara Eye Clinic in Gujarat with
the partnership of Sankara Eye Foundation and this is going to
be a major event for this year.
Jagdeep Trivedi: what is the
focus you have towards the Gujrati youth here in America?
Maganbhai Patel (Founder): yes
that is our primary goal and we started this organization with
the intention that we really focus and educate the youth about
Guajarati culture and with that in view we running a gujrati
school where we teach Gujarat to the youngsters at the temple
in Kearny and organize cultural programme.
Jagdeep Trivedi: do you have
any activities for the old people and for new immigrant in usa?
Natubhai Patel (treasurer): yes
we do conduct seminars on immigrations and help people in
immigration matters and especially for the old we have
programmes to help them get medicare and mediaid this is
ongoing on a weekly basis.
Jagdeep Trivedi: is there
something that you are planning for the future for the samaj?
Jayes Bhai Patel (President of
Gandhi Center in New Jersey): we are planning to organize a
function to bring all the youngsters with their parents who
are looking suitable match for them under one roof so match
making becomes easier and should help the society and the
gujrati community in setting up a matchmaking center.
