Dubai cops treated me well: Aqeel

Mumbai: Disc Jockey Aqeel Ali who was detained on June 3 in Dubai for the possession of the banned drug ecstasy has arrived in Mumbai.

In an exclusive interview to CNN-IBN Aqeel spoke about what exactly happened in Dubai.

Rohit Khilnani: We all heard about DJ Aqeel getting arrested. But you the best person to tell me, what exactly happened? Why were you in Dubai?

DJ Aqeel: Actually I flew to Dubai on June 3. I was supposed to do a private party at Trilogy, which is a very cool nightclub. While walking the customs, they pulled me over to the side and they said they just wanted to check me.

They found something in my wallet, which somebody had planted. And then the story goes on, which everybody knows.

Rohit Khilnani: It must have been scary for you because it’s another country, it’s a new place, your family is not there, there aren’t too many friends either. How was it? Were you sacred?

DJ Aqeel: Well, I was scared a little in the beginning. But then I had nothing to fear because I knew I was clean. I don’t do drugs and I hadn’t put in my wallet. Somebody else had put it in my wallet.

But I am very grateful to my family especially my wife because in just four hours she knew where I was, and from then onwards she started working towards it on everything.

Rohit Khilnani: You said you were not carrying drugs and it was of course proved eventually but when you saw that in your wallet, were you sacred? Do you have any clue how did it all happen?

DJ Aqeel: I was very shocked to see that in my wallet. But then again I knew somebody has put this in my wallet and I have nothing to worry about so I just kept answering all the questions they asked. They wanted me to speak and I just kept it going on.

Rohit Khilnani: Your family wasn’t there, but I was in touch with your wife, Farah. Tell me what did you go through personally? Where were you so many days, were you put behind the bars or were you at the airport?

DJ Aqeel: Yes. I was at the airport. There was a detention centre at the airport. It was like a nice three-star hotel. The Dubai police really took good care of me. The officials treated me like a guest in their house.

I could call up when I wanted, smoke when I wanted, and eat whatever I wanted. It was quite comfortable. It’s just that the ordeal of staying between four walls was a bit scary.
