IndianEra > News > India, Bangladesh All Set for ‘First’ Day-Night Test!

In a first-of-its-kind move, the Team India is playing its first-ever day-night Test match and Eden Gardens is going to be the stage for this historic moment.

And, its going to be with Bangladesh!

The former Team India captain and the newly-elected BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has a crucial role behind this decision.

Ganguly has a point that the day-night matches will attract more audience as the employed can turn up to the match after work.

Focus on Winning Said Ganguly

The decision came after Ganguly, post consultations with the Team India captain Virat Kohli, sent a formal proposal to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) last week.

After a round of deliberation on its side, BCB accepted the proposal on October 28, 2019, a day before the Bangladeshi squad landed in India on October 20, 2019.

“The BCB has confirmed and we are having a pink-ball Test. It’s a good development. Test cricket needs this push. Me and my team were bent on it and thanks to Virat also, he agreed. We will sort this out (conditions) and there will be no due. We have day-night One-dayers after all and dew spray is used. Hopefully, it would bring crowds back to the ground,” Ganguly said in a statement.

Eden Gardens Stadium

“I as a coach and the players think it’s a great opportunity. It’ll be a massive occasion under lights at Eden Gardens. So, we’re very excited,” says Bangladesh head coach Russell Domingo.

Moreover, the teams will be playing with a pink-ball due to low light conditions. “We know India are a good Test team. They may be the number one in the world, but the uncertainty factor of playing a pink-ball Test is the same for both teams. That we don’t know to expect what could work to our advantage,” Domingo adds.

Domingo informed about his team’s concerns, citing their statement that reads, “‘We don’t know about this (pink ball) … How can we get used to it with so little preparation time of only two-three days between the first and the second test.”

As per the sources, the match is going to be played between 2 to 9 pm with a 20-minute after the first session and a 40-minute one before the closing session.
