IndianEra > Business > COVID Outbreak India: Sale of BS-VI Vehicles Touch Million Mark!

While the whole nation has been suffering the COVID-19 outbreak, the auto industry seems to have got some relaxation.

As the sources say, major auto players have more than a million of their BS-VI vehicles on roads despite the coronavirus outbreak.

According to the experts, some players have already started their BS-VI portfolio a year in advance, while some are still in the process.

Surprisingly, the sale of BS-VI vehicles crossed a million mark within one year of rollout. The BS-VI emission norms were made effective on April 01, 2019.

“The early introduction of the BS-VI compliant engine in its popular models (in April 2019) represents commitment to the government’s vision for a clean and green environment,” says Maruti spokesperson.

Meanwhile, Korean manufacturer Hyundai has reportedly sold around 1.23 lakh units of its BS-VI vehicles till date, followed by Kia (84,971 units), Toyota (39,000), among others.

According to Toyota, availability of BS-VI fuel is the largest concern that is forcing the players to take a phase-wise manner.

However, the experts opine that the prices of these vehicles could be deterrent for the consumer in the current market conditions.

“As we come out of the pandemic, future consumers will be more environment focused and adoption to newer technologies like BS6 should not be a challenge. Last year has shown both original equipment makers (OEM) and customers have started to shift naturally to BS6,” says Som Kapoor, partner at E&Y.
