Despite strict lockdown measures and timely response compared to many other nations, India couldn’t resist touching the ‘1 lakh mark’ in Covid-19 positive cases.

With a doubling rate in 12 days, the country’s Covid-19 cases reached 101,385 on May 19, 2020, and 3,158 people died so far.

The country saw 4,713 cases in the last 24 hours, recording the third highest single-day number on May 18, 2020.

However, the recovering rate has also increased at 38.8 percent, with 39,234 cases recovered so far.

More than 24 states reported new cases yesterday, and Maharashtra saw 2,000 cases.

Maharashtra accounts for 38 percent of the positive cases in the country, followed by Tamil Nadu (13.7 percent), Gujarat (11 percent), Delhi (10.4 percent), MP (4.8 percent), Rajasthan (4.5 percent), UP (3.4 percent) and West Bengal (2.2 percent).

Looking at the daily average between May 14-17, 2020, India (4,418) stands 4th globally for the highest number of recent cases, after the US (24,329), Brazil (12,980), and Russia (9,870).

When it comes to the rate of spread, it took 86 days in India to reach the first 25k mark, 11 days for 25k-50k, 7 days for 50k-75k, and just 5 days for 75k-100k.

India’s COVID-19 growth rate was 7.6 percent initially when the country touched the first 25k mark, which slightly declined to 7 percent by 50k mark, followed by 5.7 percent by 75k mark and is currently at 5.1 percent at 101k mark.

Even at the current growth rate of 5.1 percent, India stands fourth globally after the US (27 percent), Spain (11.4 percent), and Russia (7.8 percent), respectively.
