However, the government did not agree with comparing India’s case with other nations that have a comparatively very lesser population.

The Indian officials say that the situation is under control, and there are fewer deaths than other nations.

According to the government, the COVID-19 transmission in India is currently not at the community level.

The country has recently reported its first-ever highest single-day COVID-19 deaths at 357.

First Sero-Survey on COVID-19

Survey on COVID-19

Citing ICMR’s first sero-survey of 26,400 people in the country’s worst-affected areas, its chief Dr. Balram Bhargava said only 0.73 percent of the selected 83 districts reported past exposure to COVID-19 virus.

Dr. Balram further informed that the lockdown measures have been successful in controlling the spread.

However, there is still susceptibility among a large population, and the risk is higher among urban areas and slums than in rural areas.

The survey is carried out in two phases: the first stage estimates the fraction of the population infected with SARS-CoV-2 people and then the population with COVID-19 infection in containment zones of hotspot cities.

The first part was completed in May 2020, and the second part is underway.

He says that vulnerability is high in urban slums, and it is highly recommended to continue local lockdown measures.

Moreover, the elderly population, persons with chronic morbidities, pregnant women, and children below 10 years of age fall under the high-risk category.
