IndianEra > Coronavirus > COVID-19 India: Nearly 5.5 Lakh Cases, States Mull Lockdown Again!

India’s COVID-19 positive cases are inching closer to 5.5 lakh mark, at 549,986 as of June 29, 2020.

The country reported 19,700 cases in the last 24 hours, and the number of deaths has reached 16,504.

Meanwhile, citing supportive results from plasma tests, Delhi CM Kejriwal said the national capital would build the country’s first ‘Plasma Bank’.

“Delhi govt will set up Plasma bank. The bank will start operation in two days. This ‘Plasma Bank’ will be set-up at the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences in Delhi. Anyone who needs plasma will need a recommendation from a doctor,” Kejriwal said in a release.

In this regard, he urged the public to donate plasma to save the lives of COVID-19 patients.

With the COVID-19 spread taking a rising trend, a few states are considering lockdown again.

After a spike, Manipur has reportedly extended the lockdown. Maharashtra and Telangana are also planning on similar lines.

Just in, Maharashtra announced the extension of its state-wide lockdown until July 31, 2020.

Around one lakh cases added to the country’s overall COVID-19 tally in the last one week.

While 3.2 lakh patients have recovered, 2.1 lakh infections are still active.

Indian Hospitals Facing Intense Pressure?

Hospital

With the cases rising every day, hospitals, even in metropolitan cities, are failing to accommodate COVID-19 patients.

A week’s stay in renowned hospitals costs the patients lakhs of rupees in bills. While a few hospitals have stopped admitting new patients.

Earlier this month, the Supreme Court had directed states to send reports about hospital facilities and their infrastructure readiness to accommodate COVID-19 patients.

Court

The apex court had said this because of the worst scenarios reported in Delhi, where patients were seen lying in the dire state across wards and hospital dormitories.

Now, a similar situation was reported in Hyderabad.

A 35-year-old COVID-19 patient Ravi Kumar from Hyderabad’s Government Chest Hospital released a mobile video about his pathetic situation.

He complained that doctors didn’t take him to ventilators even after telling them about his breathlessness.

Telangana Home Minister has been tested positive very recently.

Meanwhile, the number of infections is growing among various sections of society, including hospitals, police, politicians, and more.

At The Global Level

Global Covid-19

Globally, the total positive cases have reached 10 million, and more than 5 lakh people have died.

By order, the US has the highest number of cases, followed by Brazil, Russia, India, and the UK.

Cases are growing at a rapid rate in South Africa, Seoul, among others.

Australia has seen the most significant single-day rise in the last two months. Victoria alone reported 75 cases in the past 24 hours, contributing to the country’s most significant single-day increase since April 11, 2020.

Meanwhile, the European Union said that it is preparing a list of COVID-19 safe nations and will release the list by tomorrow.
