IndianEra > Coronavirus > COVID-19 India: Rapid Tests/Day To Double For Every 3 Days

In a move ramping up COVID-19 testing, Indian Government has decided to double the number of samples tested through RT-PCR process, every three days.

Now the scope of testing also includes TB tests along with the newly approved rapid anti-body tests for diagnosing suspected COVID-19 cases.

While the government is currently testing 10,000 samples a day, the number is expected to rise to 20,000 in three days and further over the coming days.

In addition to the existing facilities, 250 TrueNat machines and 20 CB-NAAT machines are being deployed to test COVID-19 suspects.

TrueNat and CB-NAAT are cartridge-based nuclei acid amplification tests. One machine can do around 12 tests per day. We have already placed orders for the cartridges,” says an official.

There are two Roche’s COBAS-6800 machines and the orders have been placed for two more.

The four machines hold the capability of testing around 5000 samples a day.

A total of 89,534 samples have been tested as of April 05, 2020.

“We have already issued orders to test all symptomatic Influenza Like Illnesses (ILI) and monitoring of such cases in hospital facilities,” say the officials.
