IndianEra > Coronavirus > India’s Covid-19 cases cross 2.21 million tally; President Pranab Mukherjee tests Covid-19 positive

As India crosses the 2 million mark Covid-19 infections, the Union health ministry records 62,064 new cases of the novel Coronavirus and 1007 deaths in the last 24 hours.

As per the Union Healthy ministry’s dashboard reading today, there are currently 641,532 active Covid-19 cases, and 45,383 have succumbed to the infection so far.

With the country’s healthy recovery rate at 69.33%, 54,859 patients recovered in a single day, and about 1.5 million people discharged. In addition to this, India’s fatality rate has considerably decreased, standing at 2.01% on 9th, Sunday.

Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)

Despite the improvements, India still remains the third most badly affected Covid-19 country and has surpassed the USA’s total number of Covid-19 infections. ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research) reports sample testing has increased drastically, with 4, 77,023 samples tested on Sunday alone.

Former President Pranab Mukherjee

On Friday, Former President Pranab Mukherjee was admitted to the military hospital for brain surgery and tested Covid-19 positive before the operation.  Post the surgery; the former President has been on ventilator support monitored by a team of doctors.

Earlier the former President had tweeted, “On a visit to the hospital for a separate procedure, I have tested positive for Covid-19 today. I request the people who came in contact with me in the last week, to please self isolate and get tested for Covid-19.”

After this, wishes for speedy recovery poured in from different quarters and leaders on twitter; right from President Ram Nath Kovind enquiring President Mukherjee’s daughter about his health to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visiting him at the hospital.
