Every Indian and cinema lover knows the magic that this Bollywood hit movie created 42 years back!
Yes, the movie completed 42 years of its release on May 12, 2020.
“42 years of DON.. goodness! some memories.. winning Best Actor Filmfare with Nutan ji.. producer Nariman Irani, Chandra Barot, director.. Jaya & me at Filmfare award ceremony.. We lost Nariman Irani before the film could release… I dedicated the award to his wife (sic),” Amitabh tweeted.
Recalling his magical movie, Big B shared some rare photos taken during the award ceremony on his social media today.
One of the pictures had Amitabh with Jaya Bachchan.
The other had Amitabh and his co-star Nutan, who won the Best Actress Award the same year for her ‘Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki’ movie.
Another picture had Amitabh, Director Chandra Barot and Producer Nariman Irani from the sets of Don.
Directed by Chandra Barot, Don has Big B Amitabh Bachchan in the lead playing a dual role as an underworld Don and a lookalike.
For his performance, Amitabh had won a Filmfare Award in the Best Actor category in 1979.
The movie also has a blockbuster number ‘Khaike Pan Banaraswala,’ the song most liked by most, especially the mass audience, even today.
Om Shivpuri, Zeenat Aman, Iftekhar and Pran are other vital roles in the movie.
Written by the Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar, Don was the highest grosser for 1978.
The film left a long-lasting impact on Bollywood, as reflected in Shah Rukh’s Don remake in 2006, written by Javed’s son Farhan Akhtar.
The movie has also inspired various other Indian film industries, who either remade this film in regional languages or made scripts based on the original one.
