On Dance Deewane 3, a popular dance reality show, Waheeda Rehman shared an incident how a Bharatanatyam guru refused to teach her Bharatanatyam as she is a Muslim. She shared that she later convinced him to accept her as his student.
The veteran actress was a special guest on the dance reality show.
When actress Madhuri Dixit asked Waheeda Rehman about the challenges she faced in learning Bharatanatyam, she said she wanted to learn Bharatanatyam from a guru who was quite famous in Chennai.
“Mere ek dost the, unko maine kaha ‘maine inhi se seekhna hai’. Toh unhone kaha, ‘nahi, main inko nahi sikha sakta.’ Magar kyun nahi sikha sakte? ‘Kyunki ladki musalmaan hai.’ Toh usse kya taluq hai, musalmaan ho ya Christian ho ya Hindu ho? Nahi wo apne bhaav jo hai…padam hote, varnam hota hai, wo nahi kar payegi,” said Waheeda.
She further added, “Maine bahut zidd ki, mere dost ko bhejti rahi, mere mummy ke dost ko. Toh kehne lage, ‘achha uski kundali le aao.’ Toh humane kaha hum logo mein kundali banate nahi hai. Toh bole, ‘acha, ye toh badi problem hai. Toh acha chalo iska birth date do, main apne se kundali banata hoon.’ Toh unhone kundali banayi. Toh bole, ‘Arre, yeh toh bahi tajoob ki baat hai. Ye kundali dikhaati hai ki yeh ladki meri aakhri aur sabse achhi student hog.”
The actress can be seen sharing the incident in the latest promo of DD3 shared by Colors TV.

Meanwhile, Madhuri shared a video, in which two of them are seen performing to the song Paan Khaye Saiyaan Humaro from the movie Teesri Kasam which was released in 1966.
Dance Deewane 3 is an Indian dance reality show which features performances from three generations of aspiring dancers, competing for a grand prize. Actress Madhuri Dixit and choreographers Dharmesh Yelande and Tushar Kalia are the judges.
