India touched another new high for the single-day rise of COVID-19 cases.

In the last 24 hours, the country reported 13,500 cases (highest so far), taking the overall toll to 3.8 lakhs (381,537).

Now, there are 163,643 active cases in the country.

Given the aggravating situation, Tamil Nadu called for a complete state-wide lockdown until June 30, 2020, to control the spread.

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh has reportedly 52 percent of its total cases in the last 18 days, since the #Unlock1.0 began.

In another update, a village in Maharashtra reported a flattened COVID-19 curve with a 99 percent recovery rate.

While the Navi Mumbai region saw 57 percent recovery, the neighboring Uran village reported 99.2 percent recovery with only patient takin treatment currently.

The country’s overall recovery rate stands at 53.79 percent, and 10,000 cases were seen for the eighth day in a row.

Centre Launches Mobile Labs

In a move furthering the country COVID-19 testing abilities, the Union Health Minister launched mobile ‘I-Lab’ (Infectious disease diagnosis lab).

With this lab, health authorities will be able to conduct 25 RTPCR and 300 ELISA tests per day, along with TB, HIV tests in line with the Central Government Health Scheme rates.

The government is planning nation-wide availability of these labs, even to the remote areas of the country.

COVID-19 Vaccine Likely By Year-End

In a new update, the WHO said it is optimistic about the arrival of the COVID-19 vaccine by the end of this year.

WHO Chief Scientist Dr. Sowmya Swaminathan said they are currently undertaking the vaccine efficacy trials.

Three of the 10 people under this trial process are entering into a promising third phase that proves the vaccine’s efficacy.
