  • An effective response to international terrorism
  • Reforms in the multilateral system
  • A comprehensive approach to international peace and security
  • Promoting technology with the human touch

These five points will be guided by the following 5 principles (Five Ss) chalked out of core Sanskrit words:

Foreign Minister S Jaishankar

The External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said UNSC would continue to face a set of new and traditional challenges to international peace and security.

He further added that the COVID-19 pandemic has contributed to complexities in the global economic and political scenario, by limiting the states’ ability to respond to local and global challenges.

“Global institutions remain unreformed, and under representative, they are therefore less able to deliver, the Covid-19 pandemic and its grave economic repercussions will test the world like never before,” Jaishankar adds.

In this regard, India’s role will be “voice of moderation, an advocate of dialogue, and a proponent of international law.”

He also hinted that India would place its renewed foreign policy approach on the UNSC table once it is elected for the two-year term.

MEA Secretary Swarup is hopeful about India’s candidature, given the support the country has as the single endorsed country in the entire Asia-Pacific group.

“India’s overall objective during this tenure in the UNSC will be the achievement of “New Orientation for a Reformed Multilateral System (NORMS),” the official adds.
