India, Pakistan Conflict Over Weather Reports in PoK

Indian State-owned Broadcasters DD and All India Radio

India and Pakistan are back again for back to back counters on Twitter.

This time, it’s on a meteorological and broadcasting areas.

Indian state-owned broadcasters DD and All India Radio began airing weather forecasts of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) regions.

The Indian Government decided on May 08, 2020 to feature weather forecasts of Baluchistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad and Mirpur that fall under PoK bloc.

After this, Pakistan’s national broadcaster Radio Pakistan also featured the weather reports of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh on May 10, 2020.

In a news bulletin, Pakistani broadcaster featured weather reports of Srinagar, Pulwama and Ladakh.

Besides, Radio Pakistan’s tweet on weather conditions in Ladakh led to a discussion on Twitter.

“In Ladakh, the maximum temperature is -4 degree centigrade and minimum temperature is -1 degree centigrade,” Radio Pakistan tweeted.

To this, one of the Indian Twitter users made a sarcastic tweet saying, “Wow Radio Pakistan…Didn’t study in school?”.

The issue followed the Pakistani Supreme Court’s order to the advocate general of Gilgit-Baltistan, last month, to form a caretaker government in the region.

In response to this order, the Indian External Affairs Ministry said the Pakistan Government or its judiciary “has no locus standi on territories illegally and forcibly occupied by it”.

Now, the discussion gains significance in view of the Gilgit-Baltistan Council general elections, i.e., due June 2020, when the respective government expires.
