India is undergoing severe monsoon rains this year. This is evident in the loss of lives, property, public infrastructure and more across the nation.

As the sources say, more than 2100 people have lost their lives and 47 went missing due to heavy rains in #IndianMonsoons2019.

In total, the monsoon rains and resultant floods have hit around 25 lakh population in 22 states and 357 districts.

More than 730 people have suffered injuries, 20,000 animals went missing, 1 lakh houses were fully-damaged and 14.14 lakh hectares of agricultural crops were severely affected.

Monsoon Rains

According to the Indian Meteorology Department (IMD), the country witnessed the record rainfall, since 1994, in the fourth monsoon month.

State-wise, Maharashtra (399) registered the highest number of deaths, followed by West Bengal (227), Madhya Pradesh (182), Kerala (181), Gujarat (169), Bihar (166), Karnataka (106), Assam (97), among others.

The rainy season in 2019 began with 33% deficit rainfall but expected to end with 10% higher-than-normal rate.

According to IMD, this monsoon is likely to extend for additional 40 days than the usual monsoon period.

According to Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, Director General at IMD, the climate change is making prediction more difficult.

Against the regular arrival time (June 1st), the 2019 monsoon started week later and is continuing beyond its usual end time (September 15th).
