On the occasion of National Voters’ Day 2021 today, the Election Commission of India (ECI) is all set to launch ‘e-EPIC,’ a noneditable, secure PDF version of the Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC).
Electors can now download their voter ID card on a smartphone, print it on a computer, or store it digitally. So, there will be no need to wait for the delivery of a physical EPIC card after approval.
Moreover, voters can upload their e-EPIC on Digi-locker and store it securely. The e-EPIC will be an addition to the physical EPIC card being issued upon new registration.
Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, ‘guest of honor’ at today’s National Voters’ Day event, will launch the e-EPIC facility by providing e-EPICs and EPICs to five new voters.
All the electors registered during ‘Special Summary Revision 2021’ – those who filed their applications for enrolment, objections, and corrections during November-December 2020 – will get an SMS alert and may download e-EPIC between January 25 and 31, 2021.
Meanwhile, all other general voters can download their e-EPIC for February 1, 2021. And those who don’t have a unique phone number in the e-Roll will have to undergo the KYC process before downloading the e-EPIC.
With the e-EPIC, voters will not have to get a new voter ID card for each time they change address or any details. They can download a new e-EPIC card in case of any corrections. Moreover, voters who have lost or damaged their physical EPIC cards can download duplicate cards for free.
The e-EPIC card will enable the ‘One Nation, One Election Card’ principle.
The National Voters’ Day is celebrated on January 25 every year to mark the foundation day of the ECI.
