IndianEra > Coronavirus > COVID-19 Fears: 5 New Cases in India, Iran and Italy Suffer Rise!

Coronavirus fears continue to be around across India, with another five cases reported as of March 08, 2020.

The new cases involved three people from Kerala, who have reportedly skipped scanning process post their return from Italy.

With this, the total number of coronavirus cases in India has reached 39, triggering a re-alert across the nation.

According to the Health Ministry, these three people are from Ranni in Pathnamthitta district.

To prevent the further spread of COVID-19, the Kerala Government has started tracking those people in contact with the three infected since their arrival.

The government has put the state on high alert, especially the Pathnamthitta district, calling off all sorts of public gatherings.

These five cases are coming weeks after Kerala solved the country’s first three COVID-19 cases it reported since the virus outbreak in India.

3 People Evade COVID-19 Screening!

The three returnees, a couple in 50s and a 24-year-young, took two connecting flights from Venice and landed at the Kochi International Airport on February 29, 2020.

They haven’t reported their arrival even to the air travel authorities and evaded the screening test too.

Ranni MLA Raju Abraham says the affected people have later attended a wedding and a gathering of around 300 people.

They then visited a taluk hospital, where a medical staff tested them without gloves or masks.

Post that, the medical superintendent tested and recommended them to get admitted to the isolation ward, which they initially refused and were later forced to do so.

Finally, they responded positive to the infection!

“The Italy-returned family hid their travel details from the health authorities. Such practices have to seen as a crime. Those who come from countries like Iran, Italy, South Korea and China should report to the health department immediately,” says the Kerala Heath Minister Shailaja.

“What they have done is irresponsible. But our concern now is to save their lives. Those who have come from corona affected countries should inform the health department immediately,” she said.

The Ernakulam District Collectorate assessed the situation at the Kochi International Airport and ordered all the co-passengers of these three people to appear at the health authorities.

As the airport sources say, around 182 people travelled with the three infected on the Doha-Kochi flight.

Moreover, these cases have been reported ahead of Kerala’s women festival ‘Attukal Pongal’ festival that will see thousands of women gathering including foreigners and tourists.

A government release said every individual coming from abroad should be in house surveillance for at least 28 days.

Amid the growing spread, the Delhi Chief Minister said healthy people need not wear masks and should wash hands frequently.

“If a healthy person wears a mask, there are circumstances when one might use their hands to adjust the mask. In such case, you are putting yourself at the risk of getting infected and get exposed,” said Arvind Kejriwal.

“A healthy person is advised not to wear a mask because by doing that, he or she is pre-disposing themselves to chances of infection. It is the social responsibility of all to advise others to wear masks if they are suffering from respiratory diseases,” says Dr Nutan Mundeja, the director of Delhi Government Employees Health Scheme.

NCDC Director Dr Sujeet Kumar Singh says unnecessary wearing of masks will also lead to insecurity and builds a false narrative.
