IndianEra > Coronavirus > COVID-19: India Exempts Israel From ‘Ban on Drug Exports’

Owing to the local drug demand for coronavirus treatment, the Government of India had announced ban on export of medicines to other nations.

However, a latest update from Jerusalem-based media says Israel has been given a special exemption!

The latest report said India has agreed to supply pharma ingredients to Israel upon the request of the country’s PM Benjamin Netanyahu to PM Narendra Modi.

Israel Health Minister deputy director-general Prof. Itamar Grotto had reportedly informed this to the local media, while the proposal for export of N95 masks remained a doubt.

“An exception has been granted and drug procurement processes are currently being carried out. The Indians have agreed to exempt Israel,” Grotto said in a statement.

Earlier, India had announced a ban on export of 26 APIs and medicines, including the Paracetamol, owing to the fluctuating supply chains caused by COVID-19.

Dismissing reports over lack of required equipment, Grotto said they were looking for additional quantity and excess supplies.

“Export of specified APIs and formulations made from these APIs… is hereby ‘restricted’ with immediate effect and till further orders,” the Indian Director General of Foreign Trade, Amit Yadav said on March 03, 2020.

He, however, did not speak about the level of restriction.

Evaluating inventory in pharma supply chains has been a challenge due to lack of proper disclosure by drug manufacturers and healthcare providers.
