IndianEra > Coronavirus > Covid-19 India: Vaccine Likely By End of Sept 2020?

India’s count of coronavirus positive patients has reached 29,500 and the deaths have crossed 939.

With the cases rising further, the lockdown currently until May 03, 2020 is likely to be postponed further. However, there is no official confirmation on this yet.

Globally, the number of Covid-19 positive cases has touched 3 million as of April 27, 2020, with US alone nearing 1 million mark and more than 211,609 deaths have been reported so far.

Meanwhile, in a video conference with state Chief Ministers yesterday, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has directed states to be prepared to woo companies quitting China.

“As you all know, several industries will be exploring options beyond China after the coronavirus crisis. We all should work on a comprehensive plan for possibility of investments in the states,” Modi said in a statement.

Covid Vaccine

In another update, the world’s largest vaccine maker Serum Institute of India said the coronavirus vaccine will most likely be available in the market as early as the end of September 2020. And, it might cost around Rs. 1,000.

“That’s what we hope to do by the end of May- we hope to start producing this vaccine so that by the time the trials get over in September, we could have a product that we can give to the Indian people and the world and not have to wait another 6 months after that to manufacture the vaccine,” Adar Poonawalla, Chief of Serum Institute of India, said in a statement yesterday.

As the reports say, the company is working with UK and US’ scientists on the manufacture of #CoronavirusVaccine.

To the point that most scientists across the world are expecting a minimum 2-year time for releasing the COVID-19 vaccine, Adar said they also thought the same until they met the scientists at the Oxford University.

“We have ourselves said that it (vaccine production) will take till 2021 with Codagenix and other US partners But what happened after that was that about a week ago, we were able to tie up with Oxford University which has progressed a lot and entered human beings,” said Adar.
