In a biggest-ever organ removal, the Indian doctors removed a 7.4 kg kidney from a Indian in a latest surgery.

Termed as ‘one of the biggest ever organ removed in an operation’, the kidney sized 7.4 kg and 45 cm long unlike the usual weight 120-150 g and 12 cm long.

“It was a huge lump that was occupying half of his abdomen. We knew it was a big kidney but never thought it would be this heavy,” says Sachin Kathuria, one of the doctors who performed in the surgery.

The patient was operated after reports that have shown him suffering from ‘causes fluid-filled cysts’. Doctors decided to operate when they detected the spread of infection and internal bleeding in the patient.

Doctors Who Performed in the Surgery

According to the Guinness Book of Records, the largest-ever kidney so far weighs 4.25 kg and was removed in Dubai in 2017.

Meanwhile, doctors at the New Delhi hospital say they have medical records showing kidney of a 9 kg size cut from a patient.

Now the man is on dialysis awaiting for kidney transplantation.
