Another Indian rose to fame at the international arena taking India’s recognition to the next level again!

This time, its Rahul Aware, the wrestler!

Rahul exhibited a resounding performance in the World Wrestling Championship 2019 on September 22, 2019 and won a ‘bronze’ medal, taking the country’s overall count at international wrestling to ‘5’ medals.

Rahul registered a win against his opponent (American) Tyler Lee Graff for 11-4 in the 61kg category at the championship.

Rahul was initially down by 2 points and started striking back after the break time, finally taking a 4-2 lead against his opponent. He continued his winning performance extending his lead further by 10-2 in the second round.

Though his opponent grabbed two points at the end, Rahul remained the lead!

Rahul Registered a Win Against Opponent in World Wrestling Championship

This win took India’s medals at the international wrestling championships to ‘5’ including 1 silver and 4 bronze medals, from the previous best of ‘3’ as of 2013.

Rahul had a tough time when he lost to Georgia’s Beko Lomtadze on September 21, 2019. He earlier registered a won against Kazakhstan player Rassul Kaliyev at 10-7 in the quarterfinals and progressed further.

Earlier, another Indian Deepak Punia had also tried his best at the championship in the 86-kg category but finally failed due to ankle injury.

Deepak was the fourth Indian wrestler to enter the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, while Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia and Ravi Kumar were the ones known for their qualification to the 2020 Olympics in their own categories.

Deepak also emerged as the fifth Indian to make it to finals at the senior World Championships but failed. Later, the two-time Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar remained the only Indian to have won the World Championships Title (2010).
