#MissionCorona is on quick action across India!

Recent developments with regard to safety measures, setting up of quarantine facilities all across and the upcoming #JanataCurfew make that evident.

Taking it further, the government is holding discussing with technology giants, Google, Facebook and WhatsApp, to run mass awareness campaigns to fight COVID-19 outbreak.

In this regard, Google India is already supporting the government’s efforts by customizing its home page with ‘Do The Five’ Campaign redirected to the Ministry of Health website.

The search engine giant has agreed to send 300 million notifications to users on information about the coronavirus.

The redirected Health Ministry page will have all directives, travel advisory, real-time number on positive cases, their location and reported fatalities.

“The government is exploring all possible technology solutions to deal with the contemporary challenge of Covid-19,” said an official.

Meanwhile, a Corona-related Chatbot on WhatsApp called ‘MyGov Corona Helpdesk’ is also in place to help the citizens with automated responses, upon saying ‘Hi’.

Google initiative was launched on March 19, 2020, and talks are underway with WhatsApp and Facebook for more such campaigns.

According to an official, the government is also working with Google on changing search algorithms to show Ministry of Health results on top of search.

“The company had approached the government for partnership on this and it is also changing search algorithms to provide information from authentic sources such as the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare at the top of its search ranking,” the official said.

 “To help surface authoritative information during these exceptional times, we are working closely with all government ministries including the PMO,” a Google spokesperson told media.

The government is also targeting various other ways such as SOS alerts, region-specific search trends and a promo card on YouTube home page redirecting to the Ministry of Health official site.
