Here comes a sensational judgement in the Nirbhaya Case!
A Delhi Court on January 07, 2020 said the four convicts in the Nirbhaya gangrape murder case be hanged on January 22, 2020 at 7 AM in Tihar jail.
“We have received the court order and will plan the execution of the four accordingly. Three of the accused are in Jail No. 2 and the fourth one is in Jail No. 4. Now they will be put in isolated cells and won’t be allowed to have any interaction with other prisoners,” Tihar jail sources said in a statement.
The court order followed petitions moved by Nirbhaya’s parents and the prosecution (Delhi Government) to issue death warrants against the convicts.
The court’s decision is sensational and is coming after seven years of the brutal happening against the 23-year-old Jyoti Singh (referred to as Nirbhaya), a Delhi-based physiotherapy student.
Nirbhaya’s mother Asha Devi, who was also in the court during the judgment, later told media that “the hanging of the four convicts will restore the faith of women in law.”
The court order received greetings from the locals of Nirbhaya’s village i.e., Ballia in Uttar Pradesh.
“Though late, the family today got justice,” said Nirbhaya’s grandfather.
“Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said the issuance of death warrants against the convicts has fulfilled a long-term wish of the people of Delhi and hoped it would be a lesson for people who misbehave with women,” reported PTI.
Out of the six accused, Ram Singh committed suicide in Tihar jail already, while the other ‘a juvenile’ was convicted by a juvenile justice and released from reformation home after a 3-year imprisonment.
Nirbhaya, who was gangraped in a moving bus on December 16-17, 2012, died on December 29, 2012 at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore.
