IndianEra > Government > ‘Denial of Pak Airspace’: India Receives Bitter Response from ICAO!

India received a disappointing response from the international body for its complaint against Pakistan!

The Indian Government raised a complaint with the International Civil Aviation Authority (ICAO) after Pakistan denied its airspace to PM Modi’s aircraft on his Saudi Arabia trip.

Denying India’s complaint, ICAO said its provisions will not apply to state aircraft carrying national leaders.

“The Convention on International Civil Aviation (Chicago Convention), which ICAO helps governments to cooperate under, only applies to the operations of civilian aircraft and not to state or military aircraft. Flights carrying national leaders are considered state aircraft, and are therefore not subject to ICAO provisions,” ICAO Spokesperson said in a statement.

India’s complaint to ICAO was made ahead of Modi’s bilateral visit to Saudi Arabia.

India sought an overflight clearance to PM’s Air India One aircraft for his travel to Saudi Arabia. But Islamabad denied the request, which every country usually approves to a VVIP special flight.

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has expressed his government’s decision to Pakistan’s state-run radio.

This is the second time that Pakistan is taking such decision. Earlier in September 2019, it did the same when Modi had to travel to US.

India is reportedly regretting for such continuous incidents!
