Around, 96 percent of bets for this year’s award was on Greta alone, and she would have been the youngest-ever Nobel recipient after Malala, if selected.

Nobel Prize in Economics 2019 for ‘Work on Poverty’

MIT economists Esther Duflo & (Indian) Abhijit Banerjee and Harvard economist Michael Kremer have been announced as the Nobel Prize Laureates in Economics 2019.

The trio were recognized for their relentless fight against global poverty and helping millions of children.

Their work has been widely appreciated for going beyond theory and laying path for alleviating poverty by way of simple methods in areas of education and healthcare, and on-field applications.

Their works majorly included helping millions of schoolchildren with remedial tutoring practices and encouraging governments to raise funding for preventative medicine.

“It’s a prize not just for us but for the whole movement,” Banerjee said in a statement.

“It starts from the idea that the poor are often reduced to caricatures and even the people that try to help them do not actually understand what are the deep roots of (their) problems. What we try to do in our approach is to say, ‘Look, let’s try to unpack the problems one-by-one and address them as rigorously and scientifically as possible’,” reads a statement by Duflo.
