Google Signs Cloud Deal with Airtel for Indian Market

Seems the Indian technology industry is preparing the battleground for an intense fight between major technology and their respective telecom players.

In a major update in those lines, Google has announced its cloud partnership with Airtel as part of its overseas plans to expand its cloud user base.

Google said this on January 20, 2020 and made it effective the same day. Under the new partnership, Airtel will offer G-Suite to small and medium enterprises under its ICT domain.

“The combination of G Suite’s collaboration and productivity tools with Airtel’s digital business offerings will help accelerate digital innovations for thousands of Indian businesses,” says Thomas Kurian, Chief Executive of Google Cloud.

Airtel, with over 325 million subscribers, is currently serving 2,500 large businesses, 500,000 small and medium businesses, and start-ups across India.

Earlier this year, Microsoft signed a similar kind of 10-year-long deal with Reliance’s Jio to offer its cloud services to small and medium Indian businesses.

The number of online users in India has been increasingly, with half a billion added in the last decade alone.

With the encouraging start-up culture, many small and medium businesses in the country are increasingly opting for digital tools and services, thus giving rise to cloud adoption.

NASSCOM estimates the Indian cloud market to expand by USD 7 billion in three years.

With this, leading cloud vendors Amazon, Microsoft and Google are preparing themselves to hit this India’s cloud battleground.

Exactly a week before, Amazon has announced its USD 1 billion investment in its India operations.

Will have to wait and watch to see what more will flow into the Indian technology market!
