Adding to the list of its milestones in the defense field, India successfully completed its another prestigious project under Brahmos missile.

Fitted with indigenous equipment, this is a supersonic cruise missile that holds a 290-km strike range. It is operated by all three services in different roles of the Indian armed forces.

Meanwhile, Russia has updated Oniks missile, which formed the basis for the Indo-Russian Brahmos cruise missile, with an additional 800-km range.

“The missile is outfitted with the improved control system and will be capable of striking both naval and ground targets with greater accuracy.” reads a statement in this regard.

Now, Russia is reportedly replacing its older cruise missiles on its surface ships and submarines with the new Oniks missile.

India’s Brahmos was also initially popularised as holding 290-km range. But its officials are confident about its further ranges.

“We already fired [BrahMos cruise missiles] to a range of 400 km. Very soon, we will confirm that we can fire to a range of 500 km. This will be a sea, ground or air-launched version. Even to an extended range of 800 km is possible,” reads a statement by Sudhir Mishra, Distinguished Scientist & Director General (BrahMos).
