IndianEra > News > COVID-19: WHO, Health Pros Contradict on ‘Asymptomatic Spread’!

In a fresh update, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the COVID-19 scenario worldwide is worsening!

WHO said this exactly two days after the global tally touched the ‘highest so far’ at 136,000.

The Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said there is a little hope across nations. However, the new concern is around ‘complacency’.

WHO Director General DR Tedros Adhanom

“More than 100,000 cases have been reported on nine of the past 10 days. Yesterday, more than 136,000 cases were reported — the most in a single day so far,” WHO noted in its latest release.

The global organization also informed that the rate of spread through asymptomatic carriers is rare.

“We have a number of reports from countries who are doing very detailed contact tracing. They are following asymptomatic cases, they are following contacts, and they are not finding secondary transmission onward. It’s very rare. Much of that is not published in the literature,” Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove, the global body’s technical lead for Covid-19, said in a statement.

Surprisingly, this statement contradicts the warnings by healthcare professionals, who have been claiming that ‘asymptomatic spread’ is a concern.

Globally, there are 7 million COVID-19 positive cases at present, with the US reporting the highest number (1.9 million), followed by Brazil (707,412), Russia (476,043), and the UK (288,834).

The virus has claimed 397,000 lives as per the latest figures and 3.1 million have recovered.
