India’s Covid-19 death toll has finally crossed 1,000-mark to 1,007 with 73 deaths in the last 24 hours.
Meanwhile, the total number of COVID-19 positive cases in the country has also reached 30,000 mark to 31,332 as of April 29, 2020.
According to the Health Ministry, the recovery rate has increased to 24.55 percent with 827 cases sent home after necessary treatment.
However, the lockdown is expected to continue in major parts of the country, especially in hotspot areas.
Despite the nation-wide lockdown, Maharashtra and Gujarat have been reporting biggest rise in cases compared to other states.
Maharashtra alone has more than 9300 cases with 400 deaths and 1,388 people have recovered.
Gujarat has reported 3774 positive cases and 181 deaths have been witnessed.
While overall doubling rate in the country is at 10.8 days, Maharashtra and Gujarat have doubling rates at 8.3 and 8.8 days, respectively.
Around 15 districts account for 60 percent of overall Covid-19 positive cases in the country.
Delhi’s 11 districts alone accounted for 12 percent of the overall Covid-19 positive cases on April 27, 2020.
With the cases on rise, the Health Ministry has directed the states to stop using plasma therapy to treat Covid-19 patients.
“ICMR is doing a pan-India study to evaluate the efficacy of convalescent therapy in critically ill Covid-19 patients, and until they come out with specific guidelines on it, no one should use it as a treatment modality for Covid-19 patients as it could not only be harmful but is also illegal,” says Lav Agarwal, Joint Health Secretary.
While most states are still struggling with coronavirus cases, Telangana Government is hopeful of being coronavirus-free by May 08, 2020.
Globally, the number of positive cases has crossed 3 million mark and more than 2 lakh people have died of respiratory illness.
Meanwhile, US citizens struck in India with the lockdown are now thinking of continuing here for some time in view of the rising cases in US.
Some of them have rejected the State Department’s offers to take them home.
The number of Covid-19 positive cases in US have touched 1 million mark with more than 58,000 deaths as of April 28, 2020.
