More than 200 people (217) died of the Coronavirus in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra reported a decline in the growth rate of Covid-19 infections compared to the country’s average, for the first time in the last two months.

The seven-day CAGR for Maharashtra is now below the national average for the three consecutive days.

In a surprising note, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) scientist Dr. Nivedita Gupta said the country is still very far from the actual peak.

As the sources say, a decline in infections is considered only when the daily cases begin to fall.

“We are very far away from the peak. Our preventive measures have been very effective. We are in a much better position vis-a-vis other countries, and you will see the data soon,” Dr. Gupta said.

Dr. Gupta’s statements stand accurate, given the current scenario, where the country saw more than 8,000 cases per day consistently for a week.

According to ICMR, 7 percent of people carry the infection that is of ‘high viral load,’ meaning these people can transmit to other 6.25 people on an average.

While the majority (84 percent) carry ‘low viral load’, with the ability to transmit only to 0.8 people on an average.

While 9 percent of people have ‘moderate viral load’.

According to the Joint Health Secretary Luv Agarwal, one in two every COVID-19 deaths in the country had senior citizens, who make up 10 percent of the Indian population.

While 73 percent of COVID-19 deaths had comorbidities.

Overall, India is currently the 7th worst-hit nation, globally by COVID-19. The global toll of COVID-19 positive cases stands at more than 6 lakh, and 3,80,000 died of the virus.

The US alone has 1,831,821 positive cases and 1,06,180 deaths.
