IndianEra > Government > UN Pitches For Renewable Energy, Says ‘India An Example’!

India has always been an abundant source of natural resources, and always had a special place for renewable energy.

In the latest update, the UN Chief Antonio underlined the importance of renewable energy in 2020.

He said that’s the only energy source expected to grow and create employment opportunities in 2020, compared to the fossil fuel industry.

Speaking at the ‘Clean Energy Transition Summit’, the UN Chief said solar auctions have seen a demand amid COVID-19 crisis, and India is a ‘good example’.

He urged the international community to rethink coal consumption and end the external financing of coal in the developing world.

“Coal has no place in COVID-19 recovery plans. Nations must commit to net-zero emissions by 2050 and submit more ambitious national climate plans before COP-26 next year,” Guterres statement reads.

He underlined the importance of renewable energy, stating it is the only energy source with growth expectations in 2020.

“Solar auctions have seen popularity amidst the height of the pandemic. India serves as a good example. Renewables offer three times more jobs than the fossil fuel industry,” he stated.

Indicating the demand for renewable sources, Adani Green Energy has secured a first-of-its-kind manufacturing-related solar contract worth Rs. 45,000 crore from the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI).
