IndianEra > Government > Indian Central Railway: ‘Ticketless Travelers’ Pay INR 7.88 Cr Fine!

Railways is an important, affordable mode of transport for Indians in traveling thousands of kilometres with ease.

Because of this reason, the country’s trains appear flooded most of the time.

But ‘ticketless travel’ continues to be the perennial problem for the Indian Railways, in fact, adding to the department’s treasury!

There is no irony in saying so, going by the crores worth fines that ‘ticketless travelers’ contribute to the department.

Here is one such news!

The Pune division of the Indian Central Railway recently recovered a whopping INR 7.88 crore revenue collected as ‘penalties’ from the ticketless travellers over the last five months period.

Concerned department officials conducted a 6-month drive from April-August 2019 to identify such travellers on Pune-Malawli, Pune-Miraj, Pune-Baramati and Kolhapur-Miraj routes.

The authorities were shocked to find around 1.53 lakh such offenses involving public traveling with no ticket, either on journey or on platforms, or carrying loads beyond the set limits, say the officials.
