IndianEra > Coronavirus > Covid-19: Cold Conditions Favor Virus Spread, Says Study

India’s Covid-19 cases have gone past 1 lakh mark, now at 106,958.

Continuing the pace, the country witnessed another biggest single-day rise on May 20, 2020, with 5,611 cases reported in the last 24 hours.

The number of cases saw a sudden rise, with 140 Covid-19 patients suffering from respiratory diseases between May 19-20, 2020.

Around 3,303 deaths have died so far.

With more than 42, 356 recovered patients, the country’s recovery rate is 39.62 percent, as per the government data.

The number of cases has nearly doubled in the last two weeks, from 49,391 on May 04 to 106,139 as of May 20, 2020.

Meanwhile, a new study said the changing temperature conditions, as a combination of higher temperature and humidity, may not help much in containing the virus to virus spread.

Scientists from Princeton University and the US National Institutes of Health published a study in Science journal.

The study found a lack of sizeable immunity to the virus, which clearly shows a limited impact of climate on transmission.

This is in line with the previous studies that confirmed that the drier and cold conditions are more favorable to the virus spread.

According to the research from MIT and US National Academics of Sciences (NAS), even humid temperature conditions might not work much in the absence of personal protection and social distancing measures.

Considering these studies, India is most likely in a concerning situation given its cyclone-like conditions caused by the ‘Cyclone Amphan’ and the upcoming monsoons.
